Accessibility Statement
Nkumba University is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to the Nkumba University ePaper portal.
Conformance status
We aim to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, hearing, physical, cognitive and neurological disabilities.
Accessibility features
This website includes the following features to make it easier to use:
- An accessibility toolbar (the button at the bottom-left of every page) to increase the text size and turn on a high-contrast colour scheme. Your choices are remembered as you browse.
- Full keyboard navigation with clearly visible focus indicators.
- A “Skip to content” link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
- Descriptive text alternatives (alt text) for images and edition covers.
- Meaningful headings and landmarks so screen-reader users can navigate quickly.
- Respect for the operating system’s reduced-motion setting, which turns off animations.
- A downloadable PDF of every edition as an accessible alternative to the page-flip viewer.
Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, some parts of this website have known limitations:
- The interactive page-flip (flipbook) viewer displays each page as an image and cannot be read by screen readers. As an alternative, every edition can be downloaded as a PDF — we recommend opening that file with your assistive technology.
- The accessibility of a downloaded edition depends on the original file. We are working with our publishers to provide properly tagged, text-based PDFs.
